Thurrock Young Film Network

Thurrock Young Film Network supports young people in acquiring the skills, experience, and connections needed to pursue careers in the film industry. Through workshops, hands-on production roles, and curatorial opportunities, participants build strong portfolios and discover clear pathways into the profession.

Led by Alan Bright, our Young Film Programmers group curates screenings for both Thurrock Film Club and the Thurrock Film Festival, gaining real-world experience in programming, marketing, and audience engagement.

Participants also:

  • Join our production teams

  • Develop, shoot, and promote their own films

  • Gain mentorship from professional filmmakers, festival programmers,

    and game producers

  • Attend networking events with industry professionals

  • Deepen their understanding of independent cinema

  • Contribute to the marketing and design of our screening programmes

Our young creatives play a key role in the annual Thurrock International Film Festival, Grays Caribbeans After Windrush, SALUTE! and assist in shaping future heritage, arts and film projects.

We are proud to be have been established with funds from thw BFI Film Academy, National Lottery, and Film Hub South East, and are an active member of the Young Film Programmers Network.

Young Film Network documented the Royal Ballet and Opera 10th Anniversary Trailblazer Aweards,

Thurrock Trailblazer evolved in 2026 as Thurrock schools begin a new chapter with RBO Schools,

Led by Royal Ballet & Opera (RBO), Thurrock Trailblazer has had an extraordinary impact in Thurrock with over 150,000 pupils and teachers benefitting from creative learning experiences from RBO and our partners.

Over 12 years they’ve collectively built the creative confidence of schools, teachers and pupils and can see that many schools are now well-placed to hold their own relationships with partners that have been part of the Trailblazer story. As the landscape of local authorities changes and the needs of schools continue to evolve, RBO will be directing attention to delivering a quality RBO Schools programme in Thurrock.
