GRAYS CARIBBEANS AFTER WINDRUSH
AN ONLINE ORAL HISTORY GALLERY
This project presents a powerful collection of oral history interviews with 15 members of Thurrock’s Caribbean community. This accessible online gallery is filled with their unique and fascinating memories.
None of this content is AI generated. We have uploaded these recordings with their audio intact as and when they were shared with us. The memories are recounted naturally and any failures in the video captures have been included to maintaon the flow and reality of the situation.
To accompany the digital release, a display panel toured Thurrock Libraries and the Purfleet Heritage & Military Centre throughout October, ending up at the Tilbury Cruise Terminal in November and December.
Led by our Young Film Network and supported by Historic England, the project honours the voices and contributions of Caribbeans, present and former residents of the area in the decades after Windrush.
