CARGO OF WORDS‍ ‍

A creative journey inspired by 400 years of British-Indian vernacular history. Vibrant pop-art comic strips printed on recycled paper reveal the hidden origins of everyday Indian loanwords in images and speech bubbles. Workshop sessions in primary schools will use this artwork as tools to stimulate participants reimagining of these words for their own unique, written narratives. Artwork, process and narratives will form the content of an online gallery – a compelling achievement and long term legacy. This gallery will serve as an aspiration for future activities.

THURROCK'S LOST GIANT

This project focuses on the rich and profound industrial heritage of Thames Board Mills, an industrial titan that stood on the banks of the Thames in Purfleet-on-Thames for 116 years (1887–2003). Operating as the lifeblood of Thurrock, the Mills employed over 3,500 local people at its peak and drove Britain’s packaging and manufacturing economy on an international scale.
