Set against the raw energy of London’s 1990s underground rave scene, Pitch & Fade follows two young women who form an unlikely partnership in order to break into the male dominated DJ field.
Ami, a driven 17-year-old DJ from a working-class estate, struggles to balance caring for her chronically ill mum and younger brother while trying to find opportunities as a DJ. Tara, a wealthy but deeply troubled West London raver, rejects her privileged upbringing for the reckless freedom of illegal parties, drugs, and sound systems.
Their lives collide at an illegal warehouse rave when Ami steps in on the decks after a disastrous set by Tara with a performance that electrifies the crowd. Impressed by Ami’s talent, Tara proposes they form a DJ duo: Pitch & Fade. Reluctantly, Ami agrees, seeing access to opportunities otherwise denied to her.
As the pair rise through London’s underground scene, their success is fuelled by creative chemistry but strained by opposing ambitions. Ami seeks stability and a future through music, while Tara spirals deeper into drugs and the influence of Alek, the manipulative leader of the Soma sound system collective.
After Tara’s public breakdown destroys their breakthrough club performance, the duo fractures. Tara becomes trapped within Alek’s criminal world, while Ami faces mounting pressures at home and exploitation and sexual predation within the commercial music industry.
Realising neither the underground nor the mainstream offers true freedom, Ami reconnects with her community and reaches out to save Tara. With the help of their crew, they launch Eclipse FM, an illegal pirate radio station broadcasting across London, reconnecting them with the real scene that first inspired them.
Pitch & Fade is a coming-of-age drama about friendship, class, gender, exploitation, and the search for independence through music and community.

Writer Biography

After a career in digital media and currently working as a lecturer, Mazy is now developing her screenwriting work. She has a short film 'Feed' currently in Pre-production and also writes scripts for The Actors Studio in Pinewood for their Showreel Masterclass. She has gained 'Official selections' for 2 of her other shorts - 'School Run' at the Bournemouth International Film Festival 2025 and 'Evening News' at the Monkey Bread Tree awards 2025.

I'm passionate about the ability of film to transport the viewer to different times and places, as well as stimulate their imagination, engage their emotions, potentially affect their consciousness, generate discussion and most of all - provide great entertainment.
